Ramadan is here again!!!
Before I begin this journey of Ramadan_marketing opportunities with you, I will like to ask:
What do you know about Ramadan
Take a sip.
Ramadan is one of the obligations on Muslim faithful who believe that Muhammad is a prophet of Allah. The significance of Ramadan is heighten since the Muslim holy book, the Qur’an, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during this month. This means that during Ramadan, Muslims spend more of their time in extra prayers and practice greater charitable acts.
Now let’s get down to business.
Nowadays, some business owners are beginning to realize the potential of marketing to Muslims generally, and more specifically during Ramadan. However, there is still a lack of understanding amongst some business owners regarding the opportunities that Ramadan can bring to their businesses. These opportunities can come from both Muslim majority and minority markets due to their socio_economic development and increasing purchasing power during this time.
So, if you have Muslim customers and want to market to them more effectively during Ramadan, here are some helpful tips.
👉Foodie Event
Food during Ramadan is only eaten after dark and before sunrise. So if you own a business and you seek to drive your brand in to the hearts of the Muslim faithful, you can high an event center in a Muslim dominated location in Northern Nigeria and organize a highly nutritious but sumptuous evening meal immediately after the Magrib prayer (7pm).
Mind you that the event center must be decorated with your brand marks and trade name. And while the dinner goes on your media team will stream it live on your social media pages.
After the dinner, you can hand the attendees gift of dates in a small container or nylon branded with trademarks.
The implication of this to your marketing plan will be such that at the end of that event when they go to the supermarkets and stores that may have your product, they will remember the good you did and that alone will make them patronize you.
👉 The Wordie Worder
I said in the introduction of this article that the Ramadan period is a time of prayers.
Yes, it is! But there is another attribute attached to this Holy period. It is wa’azi (supplication sermons and lessons thereof from the Islamic Holy book, the Qur’an).
After the evening dinner men gather in different locations, in mosques and even in front of their house to listen to preaching.
To leverage this opportunity in marketing your product as a business owner, you can take it on yourself to organize a sermon event and invite Islamic scholars to preach the goodwill message of Allah to the faithful who graced the event.
And at the end of the event, let the scholars mention you as the sponsor of the event. And then drop a short message such as this,
‘if you want to get a quality ready made designer dress for Eid celebration, contact at Afroattire Clothing ‘
You can even give out free gifts like branded prayer mat at the end of the event to anyone who graced the occasion.
With this gesture you can gain the favor of the people and you will have a good place in their heart. And of course, I believe you know what good this will do your business.
👉Quizie
During the fasting period Muslims are looking to pass time while entertaining engagements while waiting for Iftar (the evening meal).
You can leverage this period and sponsor a Qur’an quiz competition for children at the age range of 8 to 10. And the gift you will give to the emerging winners would carry your brand trademark.
Your brand will gain more trust from the people in such a way that they will feel appreciated and will always remember your product when they sights your product in the supermarket shelves.
Ramadan Symbols You Should consider
👉 The Crescent
The crescent is widely seen to be one of the most common symbols of Islam today the crescent moon is used on flags for various countries, for many Muslim organizations, and even the Red Crescent.
Given its clear connection with Islam in the minds of most people today the crescent is probably the most common symbol used in Ramadan marketing today. If you are planning on doing any type of visual marketing during Ramadan consider using the crescent moon.
You could brand your product with it just like Burger King did last year. It made its Burger in the shape of the crescent, this was in other to support Ramadan and create more favorable relationship.
👉 Dates
Dates are an essential part of the breaking fast meal each evening during Ramadan and due to this they can commonly be found in Ramadan ad campaigns.
Dates are the first food that is eaten when breaking the fast and have been part of the Ramadan tradition going back to the origins of the religion.
Let’s assume you want to introduce a new consumer product at this season of year. To leverage dates for your marketing campaign, brand a nylon and put the product you want to sample alongside dates. Having done this, you could go into the street when it is almost time for iftar.
👉 Arab Tea Pots
Like the dates, tea is a common drink during Ramadan. The drinking of tea conjures up images of spending long evening hours drinking and talking with friends and loved ones. So in light of this, the Arab tea kettle has become a common symbol used in all types of Ramadan marketing campaigns.
You could buy these Arab kettles, make Arab tea and serve the guests that will grace your event above and see how appreciative they will be.
